Firmware Update Utility User Guide

INTRODUCTION

The SmartCast Wireless Firmware Update Utility provides a secure, user-friendly method for a user of SmartCast Wireless Lighting Networks to conduct Firmware Updates of their networks.

FEATURES

  • Display a Device Table of a connected SmartCast Wireless Network
  • Export the Device Table of the SmartCast Wireless Network to a CSV file for Diagnostics
  • Perform a Firmware Update of all devices in the connected SmartCast Wireless Network

TOOLS REQUIRED

  • SmartCast Configuration Tool
  • USB-A to USB-miniB cable provided with the Configuration Tool
  • Windows Laptop
  • SmartCast Wireless Firmware Update Utility software provided by Cree Lighting Technical Support to be installed on the Windows Laptop
  • Firmware Update Zipfile provided by Cree Lighting Technical Support

START UP PROCEDURE

1. Turn on Configuration Tool and connect it to a commissioned SmartCast Wireless Network
2. Connect the Configuration Tool to Laptop using the USB-A to USB-miniB cable
3. Open the Firmware Update Utility
4. Press "Enable SDU Control Mode"
5. Press "Set Config Mode"

DISPLAY AND EXPORT A DEVICE TABLE 

1. Press "Get Device Table" to display the Device Table on screen


2. Press "Export To CSV" to start Export process


3. Select the File Location and create a name for the exported data
4. Press "Save" to save the export file
5. Utility will report when export is complete.

PERFORM THE FIRMWARE UPDATE

1. Press "Perform Update"


2. Browse to the File Location for the FMW Zip File


3. Select the FMW Zip File and Press "Open"


4. Wait for the update to complete



5. The Firmware Utility will return the network to Normal Mode and provide a summary of the Firmware Update.

SHUTTING DOWN THE UTILITY

1. Press "Disable SDU Control Mode" to disconnect the link between the Firmware Update Utility and the Configuration Tool.


2. Turn off the Firmware Update Utility


3. Verify the update version using the Diagnostics menu of the Configuration Tool (optional).


4. Turn off the Configuration Tool.

NOTES

  • Pressing "OK" on the Configuration Tool will disconnect the Configuration Tool from the Firmware Update Utility and return the connected SmartCast to the control of the Configuration Tool. DO NOT DISCONNECT WHILE THE FIRMWARE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS. This may render the connected SmartCast Wireless Network inoperable.
  • Press "Abort Update" to interrupt an ongoing firmware update process.
